“The biggest benefit for me as an athlete is the start of a new marathon programme and losing a few kilos before the start of the programme and the race itself.

Besides that, it's always a good reset to aim for a healthier lifestyle at the same time and to realise that I don't need anywhere near as much as what I put in my mouth throughout the day.”

Izaak Quist (41 years old / director and triathlete)

PARTICIPATED 3 TIMES

“The first time, I really wanted to do it.

I wanted to detox my body and also noticed directly day by day that my body was cleansing itself.

I also reached a "ketosis" state quite quickly, which is nice to experience. I can highly recommend the tingling in your head and all over your body.

The second time, however, I had less of a goal in mind. Although I did want to reduce my weight, I noticed that my mental willingness was a lot lower.

While there was a number on my scales at the end of the week that I hadn't seen for a very long time, I think it helps you to think about what your goal is prior to each 5 Day Fast.”

Nathalie Bremer (51 years old / Primary Education Director)

PARTICIPATED ONCE

"I thought it was a great experience to do. I didn't really experience any feelings of hunger. The first 2 days I was quite tired in the evening and in the mornings I had a slight headache. I found that odd because normally I actually never have that. But okay, from the third day on I started to feel really good. The whole week I slept really well by the way and more and more I started to experience a kind of "high". The absolute biggest "high" I had on Saturday. My expectation was that I would want to eat bread with Mozzarella, for example, but once at breakfast it became nuts and dried apricots. The "5DF-breakfast" is a keeper, by the way. I also thought the evening dishes were nicely flavoured and I found it striking that I tasted much more. It was also really fun to do this together with my partner. We just had a lot of fun with it. A number of dishes I will take with me into our normal life. I have become more aware of what I was snacking on in a day. I do that much less now and it has also been swapped for dates, for example. I can really recommend it, although I do find it quite pricey."

Joost (triathlete)

PARTICIPATED TWICE

"I'm a triathlete and have experience with Sportvasten, and compared to that, I found this quite doable.

5 days is manageable

And the feeling of hunger wasn't too bad. On the first day, I had a bit of a hard time due to caffeine, or rather the lack of it. But in terms of energy, I felt good throughout the week, especially on Thursday and Friday. The recipes are simple and quite tasty.

Good reset

I liked doing it together in the community, even though not much was said. After the five days, I also lived like a monk on Saturday and Sunday. In conclusion, it's been a good reset. I eat plenty of veg and I don't snack in the evening anymore.

Lost 3 kg

Immediately after the five days, I was five kg lighter due to water weight. That's still three kg now, which is great.

Nice support

What I also liked was the guidance and indeed the advice not to do interval training straight away. I waited with that until the following Wednesday, and it went really well.

This went wrong in the past with a different programme, which caused me some trouble. I've also recommended 5 Day Fast to several people and I'd love to do it again in a few months."

Kas Stuyf (51 years old / Psychologist and Entrepreneur)

PARTICIPATED ONCE

"Together with a friend, Kas did the five-day fast mimicking diet from 5 Day Fast for the first time around Ascension Day. 'Pablo and I work out a lot. The primary reason for participating was initially weight loss. I lost 2.9 kilograms by the end, Pablo a bit more. It was also a good kickstart to start paying a bit more attention to my diet again. I always try to eat low-carb and I've integrated a few elements of the diet into my daily life after the five days, like the nuts and apple in the morning.

During the five days, Pablo and I just kept on working out like we did before. On the first day around lunchtime, I had a tough time with the diet, and the fourth day was hard in the morning, but other than that it went pretty well. What I like about the protocol is that you are guided through it step-by-step, and it all looks really nice.

I would like to have it clearly explained why I should do it three times a year, and why a yearly plan would be interesting then. The transition after the fifth day could do with a bit more guidance, in terms of what you can eat to get your protein."

Jorrit Stracke (35 years old / property entrepreneur and triathlete)

PARTICIPATED 2 TIMES

“I started the five-day kit on Sunday together with the athletes' group.

To start straight with the result; I've never felt so strong during the training days on day 7 and day 9 and I'm completely enthusiastic.

I do triathlons and I've also done sportvasten, but I won't be doing that again: that's really more and longer suffering. I'm truly amazed that you get the same result with this five-day kit, while you actually keep eating and moving, and in terms of sports I even feel better.

I did have a few moments where I felt weak, especially on Tuesday late afternoon. I had a date then, went for a quick walk, and then I felt better. From day four onwards I felt really good.

I have experience with fasting and during that period I can sometimes get grumpy, but even that wasn't the case now, which I also checked with my wife.
What's actually nice during a kit like this is that it makes you aware of all kinds of things again. I feel grateful and closer to myself, which is lovely.

Participating in the athletes' community and waking up with the videos in the mornings was fun. This makes you feel like you're not doing it alone, meaning you're less likely to give up.

On Friday it was done and on Saturday I had the Tour of North Holland. That was unreal. I've never cycled a segment at an average of 42.5 km per hour, let alone after 130 km. Physically I felt so incredibly strong. Two days later, something similar. I had an 18 km endurance run scheduled in normal shoes (without carbon) and I ran with an average pace of 4:11 min/km. I've perhaps never felt this strong in my life.

In short, in terms of results and the kit, nothing but praise, I'm very enthusiastic. Once you've done this you're “hooked”.

Since then, I also do my shopping at the organic food shop. You don't just get a reset during the week, but you also carry on with it afterwards. So that really is super powerful.”

Emma Geurts de Leng (43 years old / runner and GZ-psychologist)

Done the 5 Day Fast 6 times "My motivation is to keep as much energy as possible throughout the day to give to others and to live a longer, healthier life, and I think 5 Day Fast is truly fantastic! Why?

During the 5 days, you can actually eat, which is quite special in itself, and the menus are genuinely tasty too! Eating biodynamic products just can't be compared to a juice cleanse. You can easily fit the menus into your daily life. The more often I've done it, the more I've noticed I've got good at it. It's generally quite easy to stick to, though the fifth day is a bit of a hungry one. Fortunately, it's almost over by then and we get to shop for nice food for day 6. My husband and I do it together regularly. It brings a lovely connection to a week like that, taking on the challenge together.

I'd already done a lot of health experiments in my life and had also read a bit about Dr Longo and the fasting mimicking diet. I'm really glad I discovered 5 Day Fast and it's nice that 5 Day Fast takes care of everything for me. Not only does it get sent to me three times a year, but whenever I have a question, I feel taken seriously and there's direct contact.

Every time I fast, I experience a physical and mental reset again. You build a different relationship with food. By the way, I don't do it for my weight, but mainly for a longer, healthier life. It's also nice that your skin clears up, you feel a positive energy, and it's obviously nice that your tummy and your whole body feel tighter afterwards."
